The architects aimed to avoid the monotony caused by the spaciousness and to add richness, focusing on the “texture” that appeals not only to the sense of sight but also to the sense of touch, and aimed at architecture that combines various materials. In addition, we adopted elements such as tokonoma, shoji screens and introduced the elements of “Japanese Beauty” into the design.

In this space, depending on how the materials are used, there is a concern that the space may become “flat”. In addition to the owner’s request, it is better not to dramatically change the spatial structure here, but to give the richness of the quality of spaces by accumulating various materials, and to touch the heartstrings of the human sense of sight and touch. We thought it might be.
Specific uses of materials include terrazzo flooring, solid oak panels with unevenness, stone, gradient glass, plastering walls, and different colors of wallpaper on the walls, floors, and ceilings of the building. Everything creates a warm and traditional space.
Instead of unifying the entire area with the same texture, we used “rough” plastering walls and ceilings, “clear” details, and “rough” and “smooth” textures. By creating a space with a low center of gravity, shadows, and soft light, we tried to compose a living space by combining things that contain a beauty that was born in Japan.
The living room and dining room are arranged in main spaces in a house with a good view. There is a large opening window in the spaces so we can let in light and wind. The kitchen is located next to the entrance hall, and we could make a buffer zone which is integrated with the living room and the dining room. We tried to ensure privacy as well as to generate diversity in life.
